New Zealand: Wellington

We only had a couple full days in Wellington (you can find our road trip itinerary here), so we tried to make the most of our short time there. Here is what we ended up doing:

Day 1: Weta Workshop

Weta Workshop is "a world-leading design and effects facility servicing the world’s creative industries." You can find a full list of projects they worked on here, as they've worked on many of the big name pictures! Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Avatar, Superman and Spider-Man movies, etc.

Day 2: Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa

The most impressive exhibit in this museum was the Gallipoli: The scale of Our War exhibit. Weta Workshop created these giant sculptures (2.4 times human size) to capture the story of World War I through the eyes of eight New Zealanders. It was really incredible and touching to see up close!

We also enjoyed the rest of the museum, which took us several hours to get through!

Day 3: We left early to catch the car ferry to the South Island on the third day. Here are some pictures:

Our trusty steed, Perry (and a very cold Michelle--it was soooo windy in Wellington):
